Adventures in Mac from a PC Guru
Day 3 Jason stopped by tonight and helped me get the important apps installed. Adium (Chat), Little Snitch (Firewall), and more. We burned some Xcode training DVDs as Jason would like to get into i* development as well. Here's a bad picture of my Mac Mini setup, 23" Samsung monitor and iPad lower left. Here's a simple photography parlor trick. Instead of pulling out my Raynox fisheye I grabbed my Halloween costume Aviator sunglasses to do a simple 180 shot. Way too much radiation in this room. Day 2 The iPad has gotten a lot of attention at work and socially. I'm very glad I picked up the 3G edition and setup a plan as I've found many cases/places where I wanted to use the 'net but Wifi was nowhere to be found. Picked up a Targus case that I say should have "Fubu" embroidered as it looks gangsta. (Day 3 edit) OMFG - I just paired the Blackberry with the Mac via Bluetooth and sent this picture of the Fubu-esque iPad jacket to the Mac instead of emailing it to myself. Very easy, had to make sure to enable "bluetooth sharing" under advanced as described here... http://www.blackberryforums.com/mac-users-corner/39583-blackberry-mac-bl...
I've purchased Mac Mini and iPad 16gb 3G/WIFI via Best Buy to expand my knowledge of the platform and eventually develop mobile applications on iPhone and iPad. Why Best Buy? Time and Cost. I didn't have to wait days for the hardware to arrive via the mail and other than Amazon who probably isn't allow to sell them under list, I was able to get 2% rewards zone credit back ($30) and used my visa for an additional 1% back. I was inspired to do this jump after a recent presentation I gave about innovation at my employer. I figured why not "practice what I preach" right? Additionally after reading "The Web is Dead" article from Wired magazine it solidified the idea.
